NIGER DELTA BASIN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

Welcome to Niger Delta Basin Development Authority

The Niger Delta Basin Development Authority was established by decree No. 37 0f 3rd August 1996, by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It came into existence when the Federal Military Government promulgated Decree No 25 of 15th June 1976 that sought to establish the River Basin Development Authorities.
These newly created bodies were saddled with the responsibility of the development of Irrigation Schemes for crops and livestock production.

Thus, this amendment decree modified the boundaries of this Authority to extend to 18 LGAs of Delta State.
Furthermore, the enactment of this decree created eleven River Basin Authorities and subsequently created an additional in 1994. The upper and Lower Niger Basin Authority brings the number of River Basins to Twelve.
